1. What is CHPO Polyester Putty?
CHPO polyester putty is a two-component, ambient-temperature curing polyester repair putty. It is primarily used to fill dents, weld seams, pinholes, and cracks in the substrate; once sanded smooth, it can use primer and then topcoat. It is the most widely used filling material in auto body repair and industrial coating processes. Its main raw material is unsaturated polyester resin. Polyester putty will match well its hardener to sale.
2. Standard Mixing Ratio of CHPO Polyester Putty
The standard mixing ratio is CHPO polyester putty: hardener = 100: 1.5–3 (by weight). After the polyester putty is mixed with hardener, it needs to be used as soon as possible (within 3–5 minutes). Our professional engineers can adjust the formulation based on specific application environments, required curing time, and sandable time to help our customers achieve better results.
3. Key Advantages of CHPO Polyester Putty
-
Fast drying at room temperature: Can generally be sanded 15–20 minutes after application at 25°C; high application efficiency.
-
Strong adhesion and high hardness: Minimal shrinkage after curing, resistant to sinking or collapsing.
-
Smooth paste consistency: Makes it easy to spread; excellent sandability after curing.
-
Superior toughness: Compared to traditional alkyd putties, it is less prone to cracking when applied in thin layers.
4. Application Limitations
- Cannot be applied in a single thick layer; the recommended thickness per pass is ≤2mm. Deep depressions require multiple thin layers, as thick layers are highly prone to cracking and blistering.
- Contains styrene and emits a pungent, volatile odor; requires proper ventilation and protective measures during application.
5. Standard Application Process
Substrate preparation: Remove rust, oil, and old paint; roughen the surface; ensure it is clean and dry.
Mixing: Combine the CHPO polyester putty and hardener according to the mixing ratio; mix thoroughly until the color is uniform.
Application: Apply multiple thin layers rather than one thick layer; allow each layer to dry completely before applying the next.
Sanding: At 25°C, wet sanding is suitable after approx 30–60 minutes; dry sanding is suitable after 2–3 hours.
Finishing: Dust removal, followed by primer and topcoat application.
⚠ Note: The curing time for the mixed putty is generally 3–5 minutes; it will harden and become unusable if this time is exceeded.
6. Key Application Industries Automotive body repair, buses/trains, furniture, hardware coating, etc.
